| RAIN STOPS ARDC AT GRANDVIEW AFTER HOT LAPS |
BECHTELSVILLE, PA Heavy rain moved over Grandview Speedway Saturday night moments after the American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) Midget competitors wrapped up hot laps at the one-third-mile clay oval.
Grandview's management team attempted to wait out the precipitation, but a second band of storms nixed hopes of getting the show completed.
A field of 27 Midgets signed in for competition at the Berks County facility.
The next event for ARDC takes place on Sat., Sept. 26 at Big Diamond Raceway in Forestville, Pa., during the Landis C. Deck/H&K Group Diamond Nationals.
Following the Aug. 26 race at New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway, Frank Polimeda of Fort Lee, N.J., (1,328 points) leads Brett Arndt of Topton, Pa. (1,200) by 128 markers.
Phillipsburg, N.J.'s Nick Wean, the Aug. 7 victor at Dixieland (N.C.) Speedway, has climbed to third with 1,151 points. Bruce Buckwalter Jr. of Royersford, Pa., (1,147) and Morton, Pa.'s P.J. Gargiulo (1,044) complete the top five in the standings.
All of the top-five drivers in the standings are in search of a first championship with the 70-year-old touring group.
In 12 ARDC events this season, there have been six different winners. Steve Buckwalter (Royersford, Pa.) picked up his fifth victory of the season at New Egypt. Drew Heistand of York, Pa., owns three wins, while Polimeda, Billy Pauch Jr., Bruce Buckwalter Jr. and Wean each have one checkered. |
